BNY Mellon (Bank of New York Mellon) is the world's largest custodian bank, with over $45 trillion in assets under custody. In 2022 BNY became the first major US bank to offer digital asset custody services to institutional clients. For onchain reinsurance and tokenised ILS, BNY's custodial role is critical: institutional investors and cedants require a regulated, systemically important custodian in the collateral chain before they can treat tokenised assets as admissible.
